At AfterShokz, we’re devoted to imagination and re-imagination. In the former we aim to create something from nothing, and in the latter we aim to create something never seen before from pre-existing components. We rearrange them in ways that have never been done, which is how we arrived at bone conduction technology for headphones. And we applaud anyone else who has the power to re-imagine. It can be tougher than raw creation, at times, because we’re so used to seeing things and principles in certain, specific ways. We applaud Robbie Wilde because he has re-imagined the art of DJ-ing. He scratches, mixes, mashes, and does these things very well, without hearing anything he is doing.
Robbie is hearing impaired, but as a graduate of the elite Dubspot DJ school in New York City he is a far more than accomplished DJ. He has learned to read waveforms visually and to feel how to handle the turntables, switches, and dials from muscle memory. He falls back on sight and touch to inform sound, and the results are really, really good. Check out this clip from his 2012 HP Discover set in Frankfurt, Germany (one of our faves):
It’s truly remarkable, and greatness deserves recognition. Keep your eyes out for this guy—we know we will be! He’s already made a name for himself, but we’re certain Robbie Wilde is on his way to the very top. AfterShokz uses bone conduction technology, which has been effectively used to reduce hearing loss (and help those with certain forms of loss hear in stereo sound!), so we especially appreciate anyone or anything that overcomes the seemingly insurmountable. Keep turning it out, Mr. Wilde! And we’ll keep feeling the vibration.
