“Bring on the Night”

Jim Guthrie – Takes Time (2013)

The Canadian songwriter has been active for close to 20 years and he is still putting out albums. His most recent album Take Time is his fourteenth solo album of his career. The experimental indie rock artist is new to me. So I am eager to listen to more of his music as I go on. Regardless of how well he is known, this album is soft and elegant. A great relaxing assortment of tale and tribute.

“Weight”

Mikal Cronin – MCII (2013)

This American songwriter is much like any other artist. He speaks from within, writes about his life and eases his mind through musical expression. While he is a fairly new name in the indie scene, his music is a timeless portrail of emergence. His first album, self titled Mikal Cronin, was influenced by many endings in his life. Now, with starting anew, this album is packed full of good tidings and the idea of new beginnings.

“Breakers”

Local Natives – Hummingbird (2013)

I first heard of Local Natives in 2009 while I returned from a prolonged visit to Utah. Their sound helped me travel across the country without a need for anything else than some food and rest. The Los Angeles indie rock band has persuaded many to fall in touch with their music. Although their sound could become timeless, the new age feel of their rock is evident in every song. From their original album Gorilla Hands to Hummingbird the Local Natives make you live with them in the moment of their recording. A timeless dance that none of us want to stop and all of us find familiar.

“Timeless”

The Airborne Toxic Event – Such Hot Blood (2013)

The Los Angeles band started in 2008 with a self titles album. All of their studio albums have made the Billboard 200 and they are aimed to be a spectacle amongst fans of indie rock. Featuring piano, drums and bass, this group has a great organic feel. Unlike a large portion of musicians today, their sound infrequently incorporates computer enhancing. Although they may not be on your radio station top 20, they are worth the listen. And, if you hadn’t heard them before, they are worth the wait.

“Virginia Slims”

Futurebirds – Baba Yaga (2013)

The indie rock band from Georgia is not from the future, nor do they fly. However, their americana style tunes are a hopeful future favorite of many. While they still may be learning how to take flight their slide guitar and soft vocals make them a easy listen. Additionally, their energetic performances and sampled country sound, this band could break a barrier between long time disputing genre lovers. Hopefully we will see them fly soon after this album earns its wings.

If you enjoyed these videos feel free to take our Spotify playlist on the go! We will see you next week! Let the countdown begin!
